Kohei Umeura was born in Tokyo, Japan. He developed an early interest in painting and began his artistic practice after encountering art abroad.

His work explores the relationship between the body and the other, engaging in a dialogue between images as they appear and the act of painting, situated between figuration and abstraction.

His paintings evoke states of release, vulnerability, and regeneration, while exploring how images emerge through processes of transition and becoming.

東京生まれ。若い頃より絵画に関心を持ち、海外でアートに触れた経験を契機に制作を開始。
現在は身体と他者の関係を主題に、具象と抽象のあわいに現れるイメージと、描く行為との対話を重ねている。
その作品は、解放や脆さ、そして再生といった状態を呼び起こしながら、移ろいの中で現れるイメージのあり方を探っている。
